"Sex is Easy. Love is Hard." Pretty much sums it up.
The movie traces the hell that Affleck puts himself thru thanks to his choice for a girlfriend. Adams, who's a dead-ringer for Cameron Diaz (with Jennifer Tilly's voice), puts Our Hero thru hell before the movie resolves itself. Lee plays Affleck's lifetime friend and he is not happy at this turn of events.
Given the number of Hollywood movies nowadays that are nothing more than big budget F/X with all the substantialness of cardboard, Chasing Amy is one terrific breath of fresh air. The acting that these three have to provide is high caliber also. The script simply refuses to yield to typical Left Coast--Pretty Woman cliches.
The movie contains a lot of brutally frank dialogue concerning sex. Specifically what appendage can be stuck in what orifice and whether or not it's a crime for it to smell. So if this kind of talk has you hitting beet red on the Blush-O-Meter, then you better pass on this flick.
Given the premise, the ending has a lot to be desired for how it plays out. But the trip along the way is definitely worth the admission. Amy is the type of flick that will not suffer as a rental. No epic battles, no blazing F/X; just a solid, well-acted story. (I know, what a shock.) So head to non-Blockbusters and pick it up then.
