English

my only exception

If a nation is going to be a great nation, its citizens have to communicate. And that communication on its most basic level is language. And that is English for Americans.

Or even not. India has over 400 indigenous languages, yet their national language is English. When a pilot is talking to an air traffic controller at an international airport, both are speaking English. That's a French pilot landing an Air France jet at the Charles De Gaulle Airport outside Paris, and both men are speaking English. Which demonstrates clearer than any argument that I can make that open communication is vital to any org.

And yet here is America late in the 20th century seemingly bent on its own destruction by fomenting separtism thru language barriers.

Some bureaucrats in the sheer idiocy of it all, have declared that English shall be taught as a second language to allow those who don't speak English be allowed some sort of smooth and easy transition to English. This is "accomplished" by them being taught courses in their mother tongue--usually Spanish.

Someone explain something to me:

How come the other waves of immigrants all thru the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries were able to learn English by virtue of being immersed in it? And yet today's immigrants are for the completely wrong reasons are being coddled as mental cripples?

The Germans immigrated to the United States and learned English.
The French immigrated to the United States and learned English.
The Chinese immigrated to the United States and learned English.
The Swedish immigrated to the United States and learned English.
The Japanese immigrated to the United States and learned English.
The Africans immigrated (and were enslaved) to the United States and learned English.
The Italians immigrated to the United States and learned English.
Even the Spanish immgrated to the United States and learned English.
Any yet now mainly immigrants coming from Mexico and Central America are being coddled with the "second language" fallacy.

Someone answer this for me: if a person does not have to do something and is always given a crutch, where is the incentive to throw the crutch away? Why should they change?

It won't happen. After a period of time, said anti-English ethnic groups will come to expect even more non-entitled entitlements. Another one of my truims: all orgs seek to increase their power. For example, I would put big money on some Hispanic "leaders" taking it upon themselves to demand more Hispanic-oriented benefits: street signs in Spanish, interpretors for every aspect of citizenship--obtaining a driver's license, paying bills, even holding a job. As they demand and get more, I would not be surprised one iota if the demand for a seperate state where Spanish is the legal language. Spanish-speaking populations in the lower half of Florida or bottom third of Texas would be perfect opportunities for such demands.

Course as certain ethnic groups get their demands met, that will instigate other ethnic groups to exercise their grip on political power. They will make their demands. In the spirit of "fairness", bureaucratic inertia, (and obscenely wrong judicial precedent), the demands will be met.

And when this happens, it literally means that the formerly United States of America will devolve into the world's largest Bosnia-Hergovinia--nothing more than a bunch of ethnic groups that aren't happy unless they are tearing each other's throats.

Will it go as far as I stridently predict? War in the streets? God I hope not. But I have yet to see proof where any org's leaders make it a point of seeing the Big Picture and acting accordingly. All they want is to exercise power in their own petty self-interests.

A nation has to have citizens communicating with each other. Think of the synergism it invokes. That concept is too important not to be achieved. Do you want "citizens" driving two-ton cars and not comprehending road signs? Do you want your life endangered at an emergency room by not being able to tell the doctor what the problem is? Do you want to be saddled with a whole burdening layer of taxes to provide non-English services--teachers, translators, citizen-usage signs & books lawyers where none are required? Do you want to be crushed with this layer of crippling overhead on your life?

It's madness. And yet I bet it'll all come true. How pathetic it all shall be. Unless leaders see just what is the big picture is and how members of their orgs should become citizens in every sense of the world.
