And yet every time I turn around, there seems to be a new religious nut in the news who has taken the law into his or her own hands. Murdering doctors who perform abortions is a favorite. And when they're caught, the perpetrators are so completely serene about the whole crime that it makes your skin crawl because you realize what has happened. That this person is in such a self-justified action fantasy world, nothing, no thing, can convince them otherwise. To be a martyr to their cause is the "price" they are willing to pay.

If I'm not missing something here, these fanatics (which are not restricted to Christiandom) have decided that the ends does justify the means. Murder of a person is "worth" the supposed rescue of fetuses allowed to come to term, so to Hell with the ten commandments. Even tho the woman who is in the bind could simply go to another doctor to still receive the needed abortion.

I don't get it.

This falls back on two precepts of mine: intolerance and the sheer number of citizens of the United States. If everyone were to be a crazed vigilante on any one subject near and dear to their hearts which they felt gave them the God-given right to be a cold-blooded murderer, then it would be anarchy. There would be blood in the streets.

I wish people would realize what a slippery slope this kind of delusional justification really is. If there is no moral center, no ethical compass, then a country devolves to nothing more than another Kampuchean killing ground.

For some strange reason, I keep expecting more from the United States of America.
